Personalised Learning
Journey

We understand that each and every learner is unique, with distinct strengths, interests, and aspirations. To honour this, we create diverse pathways that cater to various learning styles and goals. In planning any journey, the first task is to determine the starting point for each child. Our personalised learning plans are meticulously crafted to empower each student’s journey to consider the skills and characteristics of each learner. Through this principle, we ensure that education resonates on a personal level, fostering an environment where growth is nurtured and potential is unleashed.

Empowering Our
Learners:
Communication

Communication is a cornerstone of our ethos, driving our commitment to holistic learning. Embracing the SCERTS framework and a Total Communication approach, our method amplifies effective communication avenues guided by our Speech and Language Therapists.

Nurturing Learning
Environments

Central to our educational ethos is the core principle of creating learning environments, a principle deeply rooted in the guidance of the National Autistic Society and the approach from Equals. We recognise the significance of creating an environment that maximises engagement and motivation for our pupils. Embracing this philosophy, our buildings have been meticulously renovated in alignment with the principles of the National Autistic Society, ensuring that every space embodies a supportive and engaging environment. Through this commitment, we are dedicated to offering inclusive, nurturing, and empowering learning environments where all learners can thrive.

Sensory Integration:
Enhancing Learning
Experiences

Sensory integration is pivotal in autism as it directly impacts individuals’ emotional well-being, daily activities, and social interactions. Addressing sensory sensitivities through interventions like sensory integration therapy can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, enhance focus and communication skills, minimise dysregulations, and ultimately improve the quality of life for autistic people. Our individualised approach recognises and accommodates the unique sensory profiles of each learner, enabling them to navigate their sensory experiences more effectively and engage more fully in all aspects of life.

Parents may visit the school on designated open mornings. The most effective route for admission is when parents and the Local Authority agree that Imperial Oak School is an appropriate placement for a child, and a joint application is made for assessment.

This involves the Local Authority contacting the school to request an assessment to determine whether Imperial Oak School would be an appropriate placement for the child. The child and parents would then attend an Initial Contact Meeting at the school.

The parent would bring a copy of the most recent reports (where possible) from the previous education provider to inform the meeting. The school will then offer an assessment process which is tailored to the child’s individual needs. Following this assessment, the school’s referral and assessment team will meet to review the assessment.
